The Gold Coast

The rainy season in Hong Kong is pretty much over, and today we took advantage of the rare sun and blue sky and headed to the beach. We went to the Gold Coast, which is in an area of Hong Kong that I had never been before. Despite the surrounding skyscrapers and the boats in the harbor, it was quite clean and serene. It reminded me that there are so many areas here to explore, and that Hong Kong is more than just the concrete jungle that some people claim it is.
Many people in Hong Kong attempt to be as white as possible...many lotions feature lightening creams. There are few people (other than all of the Westerners along the beach) who shed off the sun umbrellas to get a tan.

This is one of many life guard stands. The water has shark nets with a designated swimming area, but I felt extra secure knowing that there was a lifeguard stand every 100 feet or so.
